FAQ schema generator

Schema

Turn your page's questions and answers into valid FAQPage JSON-LD you can paste straight into your site. Free, no signup, and it runs entirely in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Type each question and its answer into the fields on the left.
  2. Click "Add a question" for more pairs, or "Remove" to drop one.
  3. Click "Copy code" and paste the script into the page that shows those questions.

What FAQ schema does

FAQPage markup is a small block of JSON-LD that tells search engines and other software that a page contains a list of questions, each with one accepted answer. It does not change how the page looks to visitors. It labels content that is already there so a machine does not have to guess where one question ends and the next answer begins.

This generator writes that block for you. Every question you enter becomes a Question item with a name, and every answer becomes its acceptedAnswer. Pairs with a blank question or a blank answer are left out, so half-finished rows never end up in your code.

An honest note on rich results

For years, FAQ markup could make a listing in Google expand with clickable questions underneath. In 2023 Google narrowed that: FAQ rich results now appear only for well-known, authoritative government and health websites. If you run a dental practice, a law firm or a software blog, adding this markup will not bring those dropdowns back.

So why bother? Because structured data is still one of the clearest ways to describe a page to machines. Search engines use it to understand content, and AI assistants and answer engines that read pages benefit when question-and-answer content is cleanly labeled. It costs little to add and does no harm when it accurately reflects the page.

Rules worth following

  • Mark up only what visitors can see. Every question and answer in the JSON-LD should appear on the page, word for word or very close to it.
  • Use it for real FAQs. A page where you answer common questions qualifies. A forum thread where users post competing answers does not; that is a different schema type.
  • No ads in answers. Keep answers informative. Stuffing them with promotional copy or keyword lists is against Google's guidelines.
  • One FAQ block per page is usually enough. If the same FAQ is repeated across many pages, mark it up on the page where it matters most.

Where to put the code

Paste the script into the <head> or anywhere in the <body> of the page. Most CMS platforms have a field for custom header code, or a plugin that accepts JSON-LD. After publishing, check the live URL with our JSON-LD validator and then with Google's own testing tools.

Questions, answered

Will FAQ schema get me dropdowns in Google results?

Probably not. Since 2023 Google shows FAQ rich results only for well-known, authoritative government and health sites. For most businesses the markup will not produce that visual, but it still helps search engines and AI tools understand the question-and-answer content on your page.

Do the questions in the schema have to appear on the page?

Yes. Structured data should describe content visitors can actually see. If your JSON-LD lists questions that are not on the page, search engines may treat it as misleading markup. Keep the wording in the code and on the page the same or very close.

Can I use HTML or links inside an answer?

The schema allows a limited set of HTML in answer text, such as links, lists and paragraphs. Plain text is the safest choice and is what this tool produces. If you need a link, keep it simple and make sure it also appears in the visible answer.

How many questions should I include?

Include the questions your page genuinely answers, no more. There is no required minimum beyond one. A focused set of real customer questions is more useful to readers and machines than a long list written only to fill space.
