Test the link

How to use it

  1. Paste your Google Place ID and enter your business name.
  2. Click "Test the link" to confirm it opens your review form, then "Copy link".
  3. Edit the text message or email template and copy it to send to customers.

Why a direct review link helps

Asking for a review is easy. Getting a customer to find the right place to leave one is the hard part. If they have to search for your business, pick the right listing and hunt for the review button, many will give up halfway. A direct link opens the review form for your listing right away, so the only thing left is to write a few words and choose a star rating.

This tool builds that link from your Place ID and drafts a short text message and email you can adapt.

How to find your Place ID

A Place ID is a unique code Google assigns to every listing on Google Maps. Most begin with "ChIJ" followed by a string of letters and numbers.

  1. Open Google's Place ID finder using the link under the input fields.
  2. Type your business name into the search box on the map and choose your listing from the suggestions.
  3. Copy the Place ID shown in the info window and paste it into the field above.

If several listings appear, pick the one with your exact address. Duplicate or outdated listings have their own Place IDs, and sending reviews to the wrong one helps no one.

You can also get a shareable review link from inside your Google Business Profile, using the option to ask for reviews. Either approach is fine; this tool is handy when you are setting things up for a client or do not have profile access to hand.

Test before you share

Always click "Test the link" before sending it to anyone. It should open Google with your business name and the review box ready. If it opens the wrong business or an error, recheck the Place ID.

Asking for reviews the right way

  • Ask everyone, not just happy customers. Filtering who gets the request so only positive experiences reach Google is called review gating, and Google's policies prohibit it.
  • Never offer incentives. Discounts, freebies or entries into a draw in exchange for reviews are not allowed.
  • Ask soon after the visit. A request sent while the experience is fresh is easier to act on.
  • Keep the message short. One or two friendly sentences and the link are enough.
  • Reply to reviews. Thoughtful responses to both good and bad reviews show prospective customers that you pay attention.

Reviews are one part of a healthy profile. Our Google Business Profile checklist covers the rest.

Questions, answered

What is a Google Place ID?

A Place ID is a unique identifier Google gives each place in its Maps database, including businesses. It usually starts with ChIJ. Because it points to one specific listing, it is a reliable way to build links and integrations that always open the correct business.

Does the review link expire?

The link is built from your Place ID, which is generally stable. Google can occasionally change a Place ID, for example after major listing edits or merges. Test your link every few months, and if it stops opening your listing, look up the Place ID again and regenerate it.

Can I put the link on a QR code?

Yes. Paste the review link into any QR code generator and print the code on receipts, invoices, counter cards or thank-you notes. Test the printed code with a phone before ordering in bulk, and keep a short line of text next to it explaining what it does.

Is it okay to send the link only to happy customers?

No. Selectively asking only satisfied customers for reviews is known as review gating, and Google's policies do not allow it. Send the same request to every customer. Honest reviews, including the occasional critical one, also make your profile more believable to people reading it.
